Chiefs reportedly waived QB Ian Book on Monday

The Kansas City Chiefs waived quarterback Ian Book to get down to the NFL-mandated 53-man roster.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs are waving Book ahead of Tuesday’s 53-man roster deadline for all teams before the start of the regular season. The former Notre Dame star appeared in all three Chiefs preseason games and received mixed reviews for his performance. He finished with 133 yards passing and two touchdowns without an interception but notably committed a late-game fumble in the second preseason game loss to the Detroit Lions.

During his illustrious college career, Book finished with the most wins as a quarterback in Notre Dame football history with 30 wins as a starter. He connected on 72 touchdown passes, placing him second all-time in the school’s history.

Book competed with Chris Oladokun for the third quarterback spot behind starter Patrick Mahomes and veteran backup Carson Wentz. The former 2021 fourth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on January 10th of this year.
