Chiefs raise nearly $1 million for Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs and Chiefs Kingdom have combined to raise a massive amount of money for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.

According to a team press release, Red Friday flag sales on Friday, Sept. 9 raised more than $840K for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City, whose mission is to serve families with sick children with the supportive services they need. During the team’s 50/50 raffle in the home opener in Week 1, Chiefs fans raised an additional $100K — the largest regular-season pot in raffle history — for Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City. The total money raised is close to $1 million.

“Chiefs Kingdom and the KC community showed up enormously for sick children and their families at Ronald McDonald House Charities of KC,” CEO of RMHC Kansas City Tami Greenberg said, via press release. “We are so thankful to the Chiefs for wrapping their arms around this charity, and to our McDonald’s founding mission partner for their lasting support. We are forever grateful for the impact Red Friday has on local families enduring the hardest of times.”

This marked the 31st Red Friday celebration in franchise history. It was the ninth year that the team sold flags at all Kansas City- and St. Joseph-area McDonald’s locations and Kansas City Hy-Vee stores. It was also the sixth year that flags were available to Chiefs fans online.

“Red Friday remains one of the most unique and impactful traditions in Chiefs Kingdom, and the outpouring of support continues to prove how this community can unite and rally behind a cause,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said, via press release. “Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City lifts up children and families who need support during incredibly difficult situations. We are proud to work with McDonald’s, our community partners and all of Chiefs Kingdom to provide this donation so RMHC-KC can continue supporting local families.”
