Chiefs promote TE Matt Bushman from the practice squad

The football world continues to await the game-night status of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s knee following Tuesday’s injury.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, The Chiefs have made an interesting roster move today by promoting tight end Matt Bushman from their practice squad. The move comes only hours away from kickoff, with heavy uncertainty surrounding Kelce’s health.

“The #Chiefs are elevating TE Matt Bushman from the practice squad for tonight’s game against the #Lions,” said Rappaport in a post. “Source said Insurance in case Travis Kelce can’t go.”

The Chiefs signed Bushman after going undrafted in 2021 and a brief stint on the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad. He performed well in the last two preseason in Kansas City, and although he didn’t make the 53-man roster, the Chiefs were able to sign him back to the practice squad last week. In 2021, Bushman finished his standout college career at BYU with 125 receptions for 1,719 yards and nine touchdowns.
