Chiefs had pre-draft meeting with Northern Michigan OT Jake Witt

The Kansas City Chiefs seem to be taking a hard look at the offensive tackles in this draft class whether it’s a consensus player at the top of the class to those on the rise through the pre-draft process.

According to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo, only two teams haven’t met with Northern Michigan OT Jake Witt in some shape or form during his meteoric pre-draft rise. The Chiefs are among the 30 teams to have met with him.

Witt had a chance to perform in front of NFL scouts at the Central Michigan pro day earlier this month, where he put up crazy numbers at 6-foot-7 and 301 pounds. His 37-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-3 broad jump and 4.89s 40-yard dash would have been top scores among offensive tackles at the combine this year. His broad jump would have exceeded all-time marks for his position in Indy.

Witt didn’t start playing football at the college level until 2020 after transferring from Michigan Tech where he played basketball. He originally started out as a blocking tight end, but the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season prematurely. In 2021, Witt would play his first eight games at tight end before he was thrust into action at offensive tackle when injuries forced the Wildcats to improvise. He’d go on to transform his body to play full-time in 2022 as Northern Michigan’s left tackle.

Heading into the 2023 NFL draft, Witt has only played in just 14 career Division II college games as an offensive lineman, but his pro day performance almost assures that he’ll be a late-round pick in April. His rare athletic ability and on-field performance in a short time are more than enough reasons for a team to take a late-round flier. Perhaps that team will be the reigning Super Bowl champions.
