The offseason is winding down as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the new year and the opportunity to three-peat. Training camp is only weeks away, and the franchise is excited to see veteran Chris Jones in the fold without contract negotiation issues.
The Chiefs All-Pro spoke with The Kansas City Star’s Jesse Newell at his youth football camp earlier in the week regarding his availability for training camp.
“I’ve already been talking to Andy (Reid) about, ‘Let me skip out on training camp. I’m a little older, right?'” said Jones jokingly. “I can feel it. I can feel when we have a day on training camp. Give me like two days off and one day on then, and we maybe can work something out, you know?”
Jones had another banner year in 2023 without training camp, preseason, and sitting out the season opener. A full training camp with the soon-to-be 30-year-old will be a welcomed sight for the coaching staff, especially Reid, who still hasn’t responded to Jones’ request.
“He just looked at me,” said Jones, “So the conversation is still ongoing.”
The always-convincing Jones could get cut slack because of his productivity, but Reid’s training camps are famously known for their toughness and details.
