With college football season near its halfway point, it means we’re inching closer to the 2023 NFL draft season. For our friends at Draft Wire, it’s always draft season.
Luke Easterling’s recent two-round mock draft projections have the Kansas City Chiefs investing in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Keep in mind that these projections use the latest pick order updated after Week 7’s results.
Who is being projected to be a future member of the Chiefs? Let’s take a look:
28. Army DE Andre Carter II
Here’s what Easterling had to say about the Chiefs’ first-round pick:
“George Karlaftis already looks like a hit, but Frank Clark turns 30 in the offseason, so the Chiefs might want to find his eventual replacement. Carter is a massive defender with impressive length and physicality who can set the edge against the run, and convert speed to power as a pass rusher.”
Carter happens to be one of my way-too-early draft crushes. I think he’d be a great complement to Karlaftis in the future. He’s got size, length, a quick get-off and a ton of pass-rush tools in his toolbox.
60. Syracuse OT Matthew Bergeron
Just last week, we covered Bergeron in our weekly prospects series. Here is some of what we wrote about him:
“One of the biggest reasons for Syracuse’s undefeated start, this 6-5 and 322-pound tackle has taken another leap forward in his junior season. He already had the reputation of being a road grader in the run game, but he’s been extremely smooth in pass protection. According to PFF, he’s allowed just one sack and three pressures on 208 pass-blocking snaps this season. He’ll have his hands full this week with a talented Clemson defensive front.”
Bergeron performed admirably against Clemson in the 27-21 loss for Syracuse last week. He surrendered just one pressure on 36 pass-blocking snaps according to PFF.
