Ever since Netflix announced in 2020 that Chicken Run would be getting a sequel, fans of the much-loved animated movie have been beyond excited. The highly-anticipated second chapter was announced exactly 20 years to the day since the original was released and now an official release date has been announced by the streaming service.
Like its 2000 predecessor, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, produced by Aardman, is a comedy action-adventure. A synopsis for the new film reads: "Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream — a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world.
"When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk — this time, they’re breaking in!" Here's everything you need to know.

When is the Chicken Run 2 release date?
Netflix has confirmed the movie will land on the platform on December 15, 2023, just in time for Christmas. An announcement on social media read: "BREAKING NEWS: It's the poultry movie event of the year... Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, hatches on Netflix 15 December!"
The announcement also shared the first teaser trailer, with Ginger and Rocky struggling to grab their little one as the egg hatches and manages to escape from them on two feet.
Who is in the cast of Chicken Run 2?
Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi will voice characters Ginger and Rocky, who take over their roles from Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson. Meanwhile, Bella Ramsey will voice their headstrong daughter, Molly — a true chick-off-the-old-block who completes the family trio in this new chapter.
Those reprising their roles are Jane Horrocks (Babs), Imelda Staunton (Bunty) and Lynn Ferguson (Mac), joined by new additions Josie Sedgwick-Davies (Frizzle), David Bradley (Fowler), Romesh Ranganathan (Nick), Daniel Mays (Fetcher) and Nick Mohammed (Dr. Fry).
