A 41-year-old woman from Chicago, Taylor Casey, has gone missing in the Bahamas, prompting her family to express deep concern for her safety. Casey had traveled to the islands for a yoga retreat and was last seen on June 19 around Paradise Island, a small resort enclave off the shore of New Providence.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force has released a missing person flyer for Casey but did not disclose details of her disappearance or indicate if foul play is suspected. Authorities have been contacted for further information, along with the yoga retreat where Casey was staying.
Casey's family is appealing to the public for assistance in locating her and is urging anyone with information to contact Bahamian police. Her mother, Colette Seymore, expressed worry for Casey's well-being, emphasizing their love for her and desire to have her home safe.
According to her family, Casey, a dedicated yoga practitioner of 15 years, had embarked on the retreat to deepen her practice. Seymore voiced concerns about her daughter's safety, noting Casey's eagerness to share her experience upon her return and stating that Casey would not voluntarily vanish.
Seymore disclosed her plans to travel to the Bahamas to aid in the search for Casey. The family has described Casey as a light-skinned Black woman, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, often seen wearing a durag to cover her natural hair.
The US State Department issued a Level 2 travel advisory for Americans visiting the Bahamas in January, advising increased caution due to crime rates. The advisory highlights Grand Bahama and New Providence as areas where most crimes occur, including violent incidents like burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults affecting both tourists and locals.
