Chicago health officials are asking anyone who passed through Union Station in late August to watch for measles symptoms after a traveler with a confirmed infection spent close to a full day in the city. The Chicago Department of Public Health said the person arrived by train from Sedalia, Missouri, at about 10:30 p.m. on August 27, stayed overnight in Chicago, and returned to the station around 9 p.m. on August 28 to travel to Rochester, New York, according to ABC7 Chicago's account of the traveler's itinerary.
The monitoring window runs through September 18 because measles symptoms can take seven to 21 days to appear after exposure. That is the practical instruction for travelers: not a reason to seek testing now, but a reason to know what to watch for and to call ahead rather than walk into a waiting room if something develops.
