A teacher at a Chicago-area elementary school has been placed on administrative leave following controversy over a social media post expressing support for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), sparking protests and concern within the local community.
The teacher, who works at Gary Elementary School in West Chicago and has not been publicly identified, allegedly posted the words “GO ICE” on Facebook last week in response to a community-related article. The post, which has since been deleted along with the teacher’s account, quickly drew criticism in the predominantly Hispanic community.
