Chicago Bulls’ DeMar DeRozan reveals reason he didn’t go to UNC

The Chicago Bulls may have failed to make the playoffs this past season, but their roster isn’t short of star power. They inked Zach LaVine to a massive extension this past summer, Nikola Vucevic is a two-time All-Star, and DeMar DeRozan has had a long, extremely successful career.

Those three have been stars for years, and the latter of the two even went to college together. DeRozan and Vucevic both attended USC, competing together as Trojans for one season (their freshman years) before the former left for the NBA. However, DeRozan nearly decided to go to the University of North Carolina instead of USC.

During a recent appearance on Podcast P with Paul George, DeRozan revealed that he really wanted to go to UNC. However, the Tarheels wouldn’t take his best friend, Percy “Romeo” Miller, too.

“So we had looked at a few schools. We were so close that whatever school I was going to go to, he had to go too,” DeRozan said. “I wanted to go to North Carolina. One because it reminded me of Compton High blue, two Michael Jordan went there. I just really wanted to go to North Carolina. I remember we went on a visit, I’m taking a tour of the school and we are sitting in Roy Williams office. And I’m like ‘Yeah, I want to come here.’ He’s like ‘Yeah, man we would love to have you but we are not taking him.’”

Everything worked out in the end, as USC took both him and Miller, but it would have been quite the sight to see DeRozan in powder blue.
