Chhattisgarh: Students suffer burns after teachers allegedly compel them to pour hot oil on each other’s hands

RAIPUR: Approximately 25 students from a government school in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district, situated around 150 kilometers from the state capital Raipur, suffered burns on their hands from hot oil.

This incident occurred in the presence of school teachers who were attempting to identify students reportedly relieving themselves outside the toilets, as claimed by the teachers.

Parents have alleged that the teachers compelled the children to pour hot oil on each other's hands. The teachers passed an order to pour hot oil, brought from the mid-day meal kitchen on the school premises, for this purpose.

The incident took place at Kerwahi Secondary School in Makdi Block. It was reported that on Friday during lunchtime, the teachers left the premises for lunch. Upon their return, they discovered that someone had relieved themselves outside the toilet. When they questioned the students, the students were afraid. Allegedly, following this, an order was given to pour hot oil on the children's hands.

Guardians of the students alleged that the teachers forced the students, claiming that they compelled the children to pour hot oil on each other's hands. Allegedly, the same oil used for cooking mid-day meals was used. However, after the video went viral, the Education Department took notice of the incident.

Tahir Khan, the Block Resource Officer of the Education Department, stated that as soon as the matter came to light, the district education department formed an inquiry team. This team has thoroughly investigated the incident at the school and will submit its report to the district education officer. Appropriate actions will be taken in response to the incident, ensuring necessary steps are implemented.
