RAIPUR: Beating perception and exit polls, the BJP pulled off a stunning victory in Chhattisgarh on Sunday, riding the Modi magic to win 54 of the 90 assembly seats and wresting power from Congress.
If there was one victory that defined the BJP’s triumph it was Ishwar Sahu’s in Sajja constituency. He is the father of the youth who was murdered in communal violence in Biranpur (part of Sajja) in April. At a rally in former CM Raman Singh’s constituency, Rajnandgaon, a month before the polls, Union home minister Amit Shah had announced Sahu’s name and said, “Congress will continue with its politics of appeasement if it wins the election again in Chhattisgarh.”
