Chhattisgarh govt notifies PESA; now tribals can decide on Jal-Jungle-Jameen: CM Bhupesh Baghel

RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh government notified the rules for implementation of the Panchayat (Extension in Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA)-1996 on Tuesday, thus fulfilling a poll promise made by Congress during the 2018 assembly elections.

"The state government has notified the 22-page rules for PESA, which came into effect from today. With this, tribal people will be able to take their own decisions with regard to their 'Jal-Jungle and Jameen'," chief minister Bhupesh Baghel told reporters on the sidelines of a function organized here to mark World Tribal Day.
