BIJAPUR: A commando of the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) was injured when a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by naxals exploded in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Friday, police said.

The blast occurred around 1 pm in the forest of Budgicheru village under Tarrem police station limits, where a team of the 210th battalion of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) was out on an anti-naxal operation, a senior official said. The patrolling team was cordoning off the area, when jawan Niranjan Paswan stepped on the connection of the IED device, triggering the blast, he said.

Paswan sustained minor injuries on his left leg and was shifted to Basaguda hospital, from where he will be airlifted to Raipur for further treatment, the official said.

A search operation is currently underway in the area, he added. PTI
