In the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 108-105 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chet Holmgren said a franchise record. The 2022 No. 2 pick collected seven blocks, the most a Thunder rookie has ever collected in a single game.
Holmgren broke his teammate Aleksej Pokusevski’s record of six blocks during his rookie season.
Pretty impressive stuff in Holmgren’s second game.
The seven-footer outdueled Evan Mobley in the comeback win. Holmgren finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks. Mobley had 14 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks.
If everything goes right, expect Holmgren to quickly climb the Thunder ranks for all-time block leaders. The seven-footer was the No. 2 pick in large part because of his elite rim protection and block numbers.
“First game, I had zero blocks and four rebounds. I thought that was unlike myself,” Holmgren said about his franchise-record performance. “I hold myself to a standard and I felt like that was unacceptable.”
