The NBA released the first rounds of All-Star fan voting results on Thursday and Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren made an appearance.
The rookie center came in No. 9 among West frontcourt players. Holmgren (186,582) is in an uphill battle to join the rare company of players who were named an All-Star in their rookie season.
Even if Holmgren isn’t named an All-Star, he’ll surely get invited to the weekend extravaganza along with Jalen Williams for the Rising Stars challenge.
After missing all of last season recovering from foot surgeries, Holmgren has made an immediate impact on the second-placed Thunder, who own a 23-10 record.
The 21-year-old has averaged 17.4 points on 54.4% shooting, 7.5 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 2.6 assists in 33 games. He’s shot 40.7% from 3 on 4.2 attempts.
The 2024 NBA All-Star event is scheduled from Feb. 16 to Feb. 18 in Indiana. Holmgren’s teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is on track to make his second consecutive All-Star appearance as he was ranked third among West guards.
