Chesterfield manager Paul Cook edging closer to touchline ban following Notts County caution

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook is just one yellow card away from receiving a touchline ban after picking up his third caution of the season in the Spireites' 2-2 draw with Yeovil Town at the weekend.

The 55-year-old received his first booking of the season in his side's encounter with the Magpies last month, with Macaulay Langstaff's double ensuring the points were shared at Meadow Lane after the visitors let slip a two-goal lead.

The incident against Notts was due to the manager being unhappy with decisions referee Scott Tallis was giving against his side, with the Spireites boss eventually given a yellow card in the 87th minute after protesting for large periods of the game.

And his temper looks to have continued to get the better of him in recent weeks, picking up a further two cautions against Southend United and The Glovers with one more meaning he will receive a touchline ban ahead of some big games in the National League.

The weekend was a huge chance for Notts to capitalise on both the Spireites and Wrexham's draws, but were unable to do so, falling to a 3-1 defeat to Dorking Wanderers and being leapfrogged by Solihull Moors who climb into third with a better goal difference compared to the Magpies.

But that presence of a manager on the touchline is paramount to success, and with one of the top teams not having a key asset to their side available close to the action, it could be beneficial for sides like Notts.

Chesterfield travel to Maidstone this weekend, before hosting back-to-back fixtures with Maidenhead United and Dagenham and Redbridge, with a long trip to Eastleigh to follow.

A manager or coaching staff member will receive a one-match touchline suspension when they collect four yellows. Eight bookings trigger a two-match ban, while 12 yellows result in three games.

In regard to the Magpies this season, unsurprisingly, only Jim O'Brien is the only player at risk of suspension after picking up four yellow cards in the opening nine games of the season. If he were to pick up a caution at York City on Saturday, he would miss the home fixture against Altrincham the following weekend.
