Cheryl has shared details of a blunder she made during one of her first performances of 2:22 A Ghost Story at the Lyric Theatre in London.
The former Girls Aloud star, 39, has taken on the role of Jenny in the production after it was previously played by former Love Island host Laura Whitmore.
Cheryl appeared on Thursday morning’s instalment of Lorraine to discuss the show after she made her debut on the West End last night, sitting down with I’m A Celebrity alum Scarlette Douglas alongside co-star Scott Karim.
Scott plays astronomer Sam, who believes he knows the answer to everything, and described the production as ‘hilarious’, noting the cast are at risk of collapsing into giggles on stage.
Cheryl then admitted ‘corpsing’ – actor-speak for an unscripted fit of laughter onstage – was something she had already fallen prey to thanks to co-star and ex- EastEnders actor Jake Wood.
She said: “I didn’t even know that was a thing! Jake joined later on – I think it was the second show with him – and he has such comedic timing.”
Scott added: “It’s hard to hide from how bold and funny he’s being.”
Recalling the blunder, Cheryl said: “It’s a pretty serious moment where I’m supposed to respond to one of his questions and I just could feel it was bubbling and bubbling.
“I tried to look away and it just came out. And then I couldn't stop. The director was like ‘You get one of those. You corpsed’.”
Cheryl then went on to discuss her Girls Aloud co-stars coming to the West End performance to support her, admitting it was something she was nervous about.
She said: “That I don't like. It’s an emotional thing because we’ve had so many emotional moments together, I know how they’ll be thinking and feeling.
“And before a show I can't handle that emotion of them being proud. I don’t want to hear from them until after the show.”
Cheryl revealed how when she first came to see the play - before agreeing to take part in it - there was a “weird familiarity”.
She continued: “And I wonder if that’s because the writer is a Geordie?... I could feel it would be a right fit. I mean, there’s lots of swearing and shouting!... But no, it just felt fun.”
Finally, she also commented on joining the likes of Elton and Madonna as she's now known by only ‘Cheryl’, saying: “I’ll take it, I’m in good company… I will happily and gladly join.”
Cheryl is said to have secured one of the biggest fees in the history of the West End for the job.
Cheryl, who began rehearsing for the production earlier this month, is reportedly hoping to 'reinvent herself' with a big stage role after a three-year hiatus from the spotlight.
