Cher opens up about 40-year age gap with partner A.E. Edwards

Cher has opened up about her 40-year age gap with boyfriend, the music producer Alexander A.E. Edwards.

The 77-year-old singer said, according to Just Jared, that while she is happy in her relationship, their significant age gap can be noticeable at times.

Cher and the music producer, 37, have been dating since late 2022.

“I hate to talk about how happy I am, but no, we have a great time together,” she said. “We can talk music. We can talk about everything. He’s a got a great sense of humour, he’s got the cutest son in the world, ever… We just get each other.”

“Sometimes I’m talking to him and he has no idea who I’m talking about,” Cher said in reference to their wide age difference.

“The other day, I said, ‘Do you know who, I don’t know, Clark Gable, [is]?’ Somebody said, ‘Yes, of course,’ but most of my references… He’ll look at me and go, ‘I wasn’t born yet.’”

It comes a few weeks after Cher said she “can’t believe” she will soon turn 80, and suggested that her family’s genetics are behind her seemingly ever-youthful looks.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, the singer said: “I just can’t believe I will be 80 at some point, sooner than I wish. And I will still be wearing my jeans and I will still be wearing long hair and I will still be doing the same stuff that I’ve always done.

“Genes in my family are pretty amazing. I don’t know if not feeling old makes you younger. I’m not sure.

“I keep up with the trends and I have lots of young friends. I have old friends too.

“Honestly, I’m not trying to feel young, I’m not trying to be young, I am who I am, whatever that means. I’m just getting along.”

The singer shot to fame in the 1960s as one half of husband and wife duo, Sonny & Cher, and the pair went on to become TV stars with The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour before later divorcing.

She embarked on a successful solo singing career and turned her hand to the silver screen, garnering an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress in 1984 and winning the best actress Oscar in 1988 for Moonstruck.

Among her many roles, she featured in the sequel to the 2008 film Mamma Mia!, titled Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman.
