CHENNAI: A male nurse and a contract employee of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital were arrested for stealing eight Immunoglobulin vials, each 5ml, worth ₹80,000 in the market and selling them for Rs 800 each.
The arrested male nurse Vinayagamurthy, 38, and the contract staff Ravikumar, 37, stole the vials from the IMC unit and kept them at the refrigerator in the IMCU before selling the vials in black market.
The hospital staff who maintain the stock found eight of the 22 vials were missing from the IMCU and they alerted the hospital officials on February 3. Meanwhile, they also found six more vials were missing from the IMCU on February 6 and the staff later discovered the stolen vials left inside a dustbin box in the IMCU.
Based on the complaint of S Ragunandanan, chief of the IMCU, Institute of Internal Medicines, the GH police inspector registered a case and checked the CCTV camera footage. They found that Ravikumar and Vinayagamurthy were behind the act and apprehended them.
The duo was remanded in jail after appearing before a magistrate court in the city.
