Chennai Open golf to kick off on Tuesday

CHENNAI: The Chennai Open golf will be held at the TNGF (Tamil Nadu Golf Federation) course from August 23-26. The third edition of the tournament will see 126 golfers - 123 professionals and 3 amateurs - battling it out for the top prize. The event is returning to the city after a gap of four years.

Khalin Joshi, who defeated Arjun Sharma to win the Tata Steel PGTI championship in Coimbatore last week, will be one of the top draws in this event.

Apart from Khalin, others to look forward to include Karandeep Kochhar, Manu Gandas, Aman Raj, Shamim Khan as well as the defending champion Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka.

The local challenge comprises Sandeep Syal, C Arul, A Charles Ros, L Selvaraj, Pradyumna Prakash and S Prasanth.

M Vijay and S Anirudha to feature as amateurs: Former India opener Murali Vijay and his statemate Anirudha Srikkanth will be featuring in the tournament as amateurs. The third amateur in the line-up is Suman Ranjeet.

Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of PGTI, was happy to have the event at a new venue. “The PGTI is making a long-awaited return to Chennai which is a major golfing hub. We are making our debut at the venue, the TNGF course, which I am sure will serve up a new set of challenges for the players,” he said on the eve of the tournament.
