CHENNAI: Hectic parleys continued for the fourth day between the Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam camps on single leadership in AIADMK, but an amicable solution remained elusoive. Eleven of 75 district secretaries showed up at party coordinator Panneerselvam’s residence, backing him. The EPS group has been throwing up a compromise formula with Panneerselvam that multiple sources claimed is the post of presidium chairman or head of the steering committee. But OPS is not ready to budge, multiple sources confirmed.
Amid functionaries hailing him as “eternal general secretary,” Panneerselvam visited the AIADMK headquarters in Royapettah at noon and spent more than an hour with the committee set up to draft resolutions for the general council. “There are resolutions pertaining to the achievements of the AIADMK and the poor performance of the DMK government. There was no discussion on leadership issues. OPS offered his views on the resolutions before they were finalised,” a senior leader said. This was OPS’s second sitting with the committee in less than three days, given his earlier statement that his consent was required for any resolution to be taken up before the general council meeting scheduled on June 23. Palaniswami did not take part despite being in Chennai.
