Chelsea wonderkid Josh Acheampong signs new five-year deal

Chelsea wonderkid Josh Acheampong has signed a new five-year deal, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2029.

The Blues starlet has been attracting interest from Europe’s elite, with Real Madrid among those looking at the teen. Bayern Munich were also keen on the Chelsea academy graduate.

However, Acheampong has decided to commit his future to Chelsea, signing a new deal on Wednesday.

Josh Acheampong Signs New Five-Year Deal At Chelsea

Chelsea confirmed the news on Wednesday with a picture of the 18-year-old signing his new contract.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca handed Acheampong his first start for the club in their 3-1 win over Astana in the Europa Conference League last week.

Maresca has praised the defender in recent months and previously revealed he was desperate for him to stay.

“I think Josh potentially can become a top player,” Maresca said in October. “He is still 18, so still very young, so many things can change for him, but he can potentially be very important thing for Chelsea.

“It’s so important for the club that our intention is not to lose him. The first thing we need to do is to find a solution for his future. The most important thing at this stage is to get minutes, enjoy and to play football.

“For him, I don’t know the people who are trying to solve the problem, if they are helping him or not. I really like Josh and I would really like to have him here with us.”

The Sky Is The Limit For Acheampong

Josh Acheampong joined Chelsea at the Under 8s level, before working his way through the ranks at Cobham.

After featuring with the Under 18s side, Acheampong signed his first professional contract during the 2023-24 campaign.

He went on to make his first-team debut against Tottenham later that season as Chelsea won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

His ability has seen Real Madrid keep tabs on the defender but his new deal has seen the Blues successfully fend off any interest.
