Manchester United travel down to London with for Saturday's Stamford Bridge showdown with a spring in their step. The Reds posted their best performance of the season in beating Tottenham 2-0 on Wednesday, a victory that means they go into this crunch fixture knowing that another three-point haul would see them leapfrog Chelsea and go into the top four. That's quite some turnaround since the thrashing at Brentford.
United are 5/2 chances with Betfred to win at Stamford Bridge, while the hosts are 23/20 favourites to bag a fourth home win of the campaign. Chelsea have taken maximum points from all three home matches since the 2-2 draw with Spurs on the second weekend of the season.
Erik ten Hag's side racked up a monstrous 28 efforts on the Spurs goal on Wednesday but an xGF of just 1.7 puts into perspective just how many of those attempts came were from long range. That said, United completely dominated a Spurs side that could never get to grips with the energy and dynamism the Reds showed in their attacking play.
Chelsea will pose United different and likely more searching questions, especially as their attacking players interchange positions a good deal more than Spurs' forwards do, but United look strong at the back now thansk to the burgeoning partnership between Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, who has been a real hit since joing from Ajax in the summer.
Chelsea have tightened up defensively since Graham Potter took over. They haven't conceded a goal in any of their five matches across the Premier League and Champions League, which is undoubtedly impressive. However, anyone that watched their 2-0 win at Aston Villa last Sunday will know that they pretty fortunate to come away from that game with a clean sheet. They will do well to keep United at bay.
Chelsea vs Manchester United predictions
United's recent record at Stamford Bridge is strong - they have not been beaten in any of their last six trips to west London in all competitions and the Reds are more than capable of getting something from this.
Chelsea didn't really do enough to take all three points against Brentford on Wednesday, indeed they struggled to create many big openings for the second game in succession. If the Reds can get their noses in front, three points is there for them. Keep the draw as insurance by backing United in the Draw No Bet market at 6/4.
