That’s all from me today. Have a lovely rest of your afternoon.

Aston Villa manager Natalia Arroyo reflected on her team’s defeat.

It was like being thrown in a swimming pool and not allowed to get air - it was cruel. I am really sorry and disappointed. We don’t want to lose a game, we don’t want to concede seven goals and we need to do better.

Game of the day was definitely Aston Villa v Spurs. Spurs allowed Aston Villa to stay in the game until the 70 minute mark before they finally pulled away and put the game to bed. Player of the match Signe Gaupset spoke to the press after the game.

It’s something we have been speaking about, we need to score goals. To score seven is amazing.

Chelsea were second in the table for much of their game against Liverpool but a late winner for Manchester United against London City Lionesses saw Marc Skinner’s side leapfrog over Chelsea. Goalscorer Millie Turner spoke to the press after her winner.

It’s a massive result for us. To go 1-0 down and then react the way we did, it’s huge. It’s big from the team. It’s so important for the momentum. We got so many games, we used our squad today and it shows how much depth we have got.

Lauren James speaks to Sky Sports after her brilliant performance.

I have been trying to get my form back. It was difficult at the start of this game but then we got our goal and it started to open up.

Updated

90+3 min: Aston Villa 3-7 Spurs Spurs almost have an eight goal. This time Lenna Gunning-Williams flashes an effort just wide of the far post.

GOAL! Aston Villa 3-7 Spurs (Blakstad, 84)

Please have mercy … on me, not the Aston Villa players. Spurs just keep on going and going. This time they whip a corner straight onto the head of Julie Blakstad. She heads into the back of the net to add insult to injury for Aston Villa. That must be it, right?

Updated

GOAL! Aston Villa 3-6 Spurs (Tandberg, 82)

This is madness! Hamano drives forward and slips in Tandberg on the right. Making her way into the box, the super sub arrows the ball into the bottom corner.

GOAL! Aston Villa 3-5 Spurs (Hanson, 79)

I can barely keep up! Lynn Wilms whips the ball into the box from the right. Hanson takes it down and smashes the ball into the back of the net.

GOAL! Manchester United 2-1 London City Lionesses (Turner, 78)

Manchester United win a free kick which Maya Le Tissier whips into the box. It bounces onto the head of Millie Turner who converts. That’s a big goal for Manchester United to keep the pressure on Chelsea and Arsenal.

Updated

GOAL! Aston Villa 2-5 Spurs (Hamano, 72)

Spurs exploit Aston Villa as they commit more players forward. Gaupset plays the ball through to Maika Hamano from her own half and Hamano is away. Bearing down on goal, she takes the ball round the keeper and composes herself to dink the ball past the retreating Aston Villa defenders.

Updated

GOAL! Aston Villa 2-4 Spurs (Tandberg, 69)

Just as I thought Aston Villa had a chance to get in this game, Spurs restore their two goal cushion. The away side attack immediately after the restart and Cathinka Tandberg smashes the ball first-time past the keeper.

GOAL! Aston Villa 2-3 Spurs (Jean-François, 68)

Oriane Jean-François wins the ball back from a Spurs defender and then gets on the front foot. She takes on a couple of defenders before shooting. Her effort takes a huge deflection and loops over the keeper.

65 min: Aston Villa 1-3 Spurs Hanson gets on the ball and drives towards goal. She takes a speculative shot from about 30 yards out and it flashes wide of the post.

GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool (James, 64)

What a finish from Lauren James. She picks the ball up on the left, cuts inside and then smashes the ball past the keeper at the near post. Just brilliant!

Updated

64 min: Everton 1-0 West Ham Everton have the ball in the back of the net from a corner but it’s ruled out for some reason. It’s a strange one because it was an Everton player who went down.

60 min: Everton 1-0 West Ham Ornella Vignola scoops the ball over the top to Gabarro. The Everton striker is 1v1 with the keeper but she shoots straight at Kinga Szemik.

57 min: Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool Chelsea win a corner. It’s floated in the box towards Lucy Bronze who heads wide of the post.

55 min: Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool The second half has started in similar fashion to the first. Both sides are passing the ball around the field without really threatening to score.

Half time

The whistle blows around the grounds.

45+5 min: Manchester United 1-1 London City Lionesses Huge mistake from Phallon Tullis-Joyce. The Manchester United keeper bizarrely passes the ball to Parris in the box. The striker, maybe not expecting it, spurns the opportunity as she hits it straight at the keeper.

45+3 min: Aston Villa 1-3 Spurs England receives the ball 30 yards out and plays it out wide to Maika Hamano. The Chelsea loanee drives her effort towards the keeper’s right and Roebuck is able to save it with her right boot.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool (Nüsken, 40)

Chelsea finally break the deadlock. This goal is all about Lauren James who twists and turns on the left. The England international beats her defender and whips a devilish ball into the near post. Sjoeke Nüsken is the first one to meet it and she pokes it into the back of the net.

Updated

36 min: Aston Villa 1-3 Spurs Spurs aren’t letting up. Amanda Nildén forces Ellie Roebuck into a save but she can only parry it out to England. There’s chaos in the box and the ball ricochets off of the Spurs forward and onto the post.

34 min: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool This one hasn’t really got going so far. Chelsea are struggling to break Liverpool down.

GOAL! Manchester United 1-1 London City Lionesses (Park, 30)

What a goal! Jess Parks picks the ball up deep in the opposition half and has only one thing on her mind. She drives towards goal, beating the challenges from a couple defenders, and unleashes an effort past the keeper.

Updated

GOAL! Aston Villa 1-3 Spurs (Holdt, 26)

Spurs are running riot. Hanna Wijk whips the ball in to cause havoc in the Aston Villa box. The defenders fail to clear the ball on a couple of occasions. Olivia Holdt gets hold of the ball and beats the keeper from an impossible angle at the near post. A well deserved goal for Spurs after a dominant display so far.

Updated

23 min: Everton 1-0 West Ham Everton should really have scored. Inma Gabarro chests the ball down after a cross but her shot is straight at the keeper.

Updated

20 min: Manchester United 0-1 London City Lionesses London City have had a couple of chances already. A few moments ago Parris latched onto a through ball before playing it back to Jana Fernández. Fernández blazes over the bar and the home side can breathe again.

Updated

GOAL! Aston Villa 1-2 Spurs (England, 19)

Spurs restore order as they retake the lead. Beth England receives the ball on the left and jinks this way and that before shooting towards goal. Her shot takes a huge deflection off of Anna Patten and the ball loops over the goalkeeper.

Updated

GOAL! Aston Villa 1-1 Spurs (Hanson, 16)

Kirsty Hanson breaks away with the ball and starts running … and keeps running. The defender can’t stop her as she closes in on the keeper before side footing into the bottom corner. Great goal!

Updated

Signe Gaupset works the ball out wide before receiving it again. She takes a touch out of her feet and fires the ball past the keeper at the near post.

Updated

GOAL! Everton 1-0 West Ham (Hayashi, 8)

What a devastating counter attack from Everton! They have an overload going forward and work it to Hannah Blundell. Blundell plays the ball into the path of Honoka Hayashi who taps into an empty net.

Updated

GOAL! Manchester United 0-1 London City Lionesses (Parris, 5)

Well this is a surprise. London City Lionesses work it well down the right and deliver the ball into the box. Nikita Parris bravely meets it and heads the ball back across goal. What a start for the away side.

Key event

3 min: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool Liverpool hit the back of the net but the goal won’t count. Ceri Holland heads down the left and whips in a cross for Alice Bergström. Bergström takes it down well and the finish is even better but it struck her hand in the process.

Preamble

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Women’s Super League. We’ve got four lunchtime kick-offs (12pm GMT) to look forward to, including Chelsea v Liverpool and Manchester United v London City Lionesses.

The title race is effectively over for Chelsea, after humiliating back to back defeats against Arsenal and Manchester City. They bounced back with a win against Spurs last week so Sonia Bompastor will be hoping for an end of season rally to keep them in the Champions League places.

Meanwhile, Manchester United did what the men’s team couldn’t by winning more than five games in a row. Marc Skinner’s side are unbeaten in ten but London City Lionesses are no slouches. They’re sixth in the league in their debut season.

I’ll also keep you updated on Aston Villa v Spurs and Everton v West Ham. We have a busy day ahead so stick with me for the next few hours. Get in touch to share your thoughts.
