Chelsea Under-21s player ratings vs Leicester City as Dion Rankine and Charlie Webster shine

Eddie Beach - Had very little to do and was probably feeling the cold as much as the spectators. Leicester had a couple of half chances in the second half but none that tested Beach. The goalkeeper was vocal throughout, organising his backline and encouraging his teammates. Secured his fourth clean sheet of the second. 6

Derrick Abu - Came alive in the second half after a quiet opening 45 minutes. The reliance on his overlapping runs to how Chelsea play should not be undervalued - similar to the first team. Had further opportunities to venture forward but stayed resolute at right-back. 6

Josh Brooking - Made one Antonio Rudiger-like run from defence into Leicester's box in the first half and was too strong for any Leicester attackers when needed. Alongside partner Gilchrist, Brooking remained vocal throughout but was severely disappointed with his easily avoidable booking. 6

Alfie Gilchrist - The skipper orchestrated the Chelsea backline without much trouble from Leicester. Calm and composed in possession and came out on top of many of his duels with striker Tawanda Maswanhise. The 19-year-old read any possible danger from distance and celebrated a free-kick block like a goal.. 6

Zac Sturge - Provided various overlapping runs to assist Rankine down the left wing and showed extreme fitness levels to dart up and down the pitch. Once the second goal was scored, Sturge focused on his defensive responsibilities to see out the clean sheet. 6

Charlie Webster - Covered every blaze of pass and earned a couple of plaudits from Leicester City supporters in the stands around me. Was consistent with his short range passes and always offered a passing option in central areas when the ball was wide. Topped his performance off with a sensational strike. One to watch for Graham Potter’s side this season, for sure. 9

Ben Elliott - Rotated with Webster in advancing forward and always looked to pick a forward pass. Very rarely gave the ball away and played the ball-winning role very well. Seemed to remain in the centre of the pitch and was like he had a magnet to the half-way line. A complete midfielder performance. 7

Dylan Williams - Probably should have made it 3-0 in the first minute of the second half after being fed through on goal. He opened his body up and was denied by Odunze. Unlike Rankine, whose opposition full-back offered little threat, Williams was forced to track back from Deniche Hill. 6

Cesare Casadei - The summer signing was handed a free roam role by Mark Robinson and was a constant nuisance for Leicester. Physical in his challenge when needed in defence and in attack, Casadei was unlucky not to score in the first half with an unlucky strike outside the area. Could have done more with the ball when the opportunity arrived with his stature towering over most of Leicester's players. 6

Dion Rankine - Bagged his first league goal since the 7-1 win at Wolves on the opening day and was Chelsea's most dangerous option on the attack. Always calling for the ball and attempting to run at his man. Gave Joe Wormleighton a horrid time in the first half before the defender came off at half-time. 8

Mason Burstow - Read the game very well and played the Foxes defence well. Certainly didn't see much of the ball that he would have liked but forced Leicester into plenty of errors in the final third. Played off the shoulder of the last defender and chased down every ball that came his way. 6

Subs

Malik Mothersille - Came on with Chelsea two goals up and the tempo of the game flat. Held the ball up well and showed blitzering pace with his counter runs.

Brodi Hughes - Kept his defensive shape well after being plugged into a solid back four. Attempted countless defence cutting passes and showed glimpses of what we saw wth Abu wit his desire to join attacks.
