Chelsea are entering an exciting new era with Todd Boehly at the wheel. Though many fans seem to have grown restless with the lack of transfer activity done this summer, there is reason to celebrate. Roman Abramovich will forever have a legacy with Chelsea which champions their success over the last 20 years. The Russian billionaire has left big shoes to fill but Boehly is making his own staple starting with the transfer window.
The Blues have missed out on just one transfer that they have shared long term interest in - Aurelien Tchouameni. The Frenchman preferred a move to Real Madrid rather than to wait for Chelsea to deal with their backroom issues. Since then, the Blues have been linked with a number of different targets indicating that Boehly is not willing to let another one go.
Raphinha has become the latest forward to be linked with Thomas Tuchel’s squad. With interest from Barcelona and Arsenal, the Blues were late to the party in offering a last-minute bid for the Brazilian. Leeds and Chelsea came to a £60 million agreement quite quickly and sports journalist, Dean Jones believes that this could be a statement.

Via Give Me Sport, Dean Jones said: "I have to admit I was surprised by how quickly Chelsea moved for Raphinha. This new approach from Todd Boehly has to be a concern for other clubs – Chelsea really mean business in the new era."
Even though fans have had to wait for their first real bid for a big-name target, they have been treated with the fast actions of Boehly. Chelsea are close to agreeing on a fee with Manchester City for England star, Raheem Sterling. Reports suggest that Tuchel has had talks with the 27-year-old personally in the bid to bring him over to West London.
Without the influence of Marina Granovskaia, Boehly is able to give Chelsea fans a glimpse of how he will tackle transfer windows. It is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air. Lengthy negotiations coupled with unmovable terms have left Chelsea in recent predicaments where they have lost out on primary targets. Virgil van Dijk, Romelu Lukaku and Alisson were all previous targets between the Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri managerial era. Granovskaia reportedly was not keen on the asking price at the time and opted for other options.
Thomas Tuchel is said to have a majority say in his transfer targets this time around. The assumption is that most of the Chelsea targets are in fact his own. It sounds promising that Boehly is able to trust his manager enough to give him that level of control. It is even more positive knowing that he is being backed on all accounts.
Even though it’s an exciting new way of working, fans will hope that it all works out in the end.
