Chelsea transfer target doubles down on Premier League amid 'flattering' Graham Potter remark

Chelsea have conducted their time well in the January transfer window with the bolstering of Graham Potter's forward options. Joao Felix's temporary arrival from Atletico Madrid was followed by Mykhailo Mudryk's mega £88m move on Sunday.

The savvy business off-the-field seemed to reflect on the field as the Blues ended a torrid run of defeats to overcome Crystal Palace 1-0. Mudryk's eight-and-a-half year contract at Stamford Bridge demonstrates the positive thinking by Chelsea's hierarchy for the long-term success of the club, as does the business previously conducted.

Chelsea have already secured the services of wonderkids Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana with 21-year-old centre-back Benoit Badiashile also arriving from AS Monaco. The January signings take Todd Boehly's spending over £400m over one-and-a-half windows - and it's not expected to cool down just yet.

Lille superstar Jonathan David is one man linked with a move to west London after his sizzling form in Ligue 1. This campaign, the Canadian striker has 17 goal involvements in 20 appearances, with only Kylian Mbappe scoring more goals than him this season in Ligue 1.

However, luring David away from the Stade Pierre-Mauroy may prove a difficult task due to his current contract not expiring until 2025. CIES Football Observatory currently value the former Genk forward at €50m (£43.9m), meaning Boehly will have to cough up additional funds to land the striker.

Amid all the speculation surrounding his future, David was quizzed on interest from the Premier League after netting a brace in the 5-1 win over ESTAC Troyes on Sunday. "It's flattering when you are praised but I personally don't know him (Graham Potter)," the 23-year-old told Capital Football.

"The Premier League is one of the biggest leagues in the world, let's see what the future holds."

It's not the first time that David has discussed Chelsea this season. Back in October, he hinted at a move to the Premier League in an interview with Sky Sports. "For me, I was always watching European football on TV and that was always the goal to go to Europe," he explained.

"The next step is growing, having more ambition and a bigger club. Every player wants to play for a massive club in their life, so I think if I had the chance to do it, I'll go for it for sure.

"I think they're two different leagues [Premier League and La Liga], I think I can adapt to both for sure, the experience I've had in France it can help me adapt to some place else a lot faster. I think both leagues suit me."
