Chelsea talent closing in on Hull City permanent move as Todd Boehly agrees transfer

Chelsea talent Xavier Simons has agreed personal terms to complete a permanent move to Hull City ahead of the summer transfer window. Simons signed for the Championship outfit on loan at the start of the 2022/23 campaign and has impressed when given the chance to play at the MKM Stadium.

The 20-year-old made his Hull debut in the FA Cup defeat against Fulham but has been handed more minutes under Liam Rosenior. Rosenior feels Simons was undervalued before he was appointed as boss in November, and is now keen to give him a prominent role as a full-time player.

The young midfielder, who is capable of playing in multiple defensive roles, has been convinced by Hull to turn his loan deal into a permanent move with Chelsea set to accept a transfer bid for the 20-year-old. Simons himself has admitted he has come to the end of his road at Stamford Bridge and is keen to progress his career in east Yorkshire.

"Liam's [Rosenior] been open to me and said how much he wants me here at the club moving forwards," Simons told Hull Live. "I see the project, and I believe in it, and that's to get us back in the Premier League.

"I want to play a part in that. It's between both clubs now to sort things out, when that is I don't know, but I'm ready whenever."

Hull are understood to have made a big push to persuade the Blues youngster that he had a big future at the club, even when he wasn't playing regularly. Simons added: "Yes, of course I want to be here.

"I want to get the club back in the Prem and it's between the two clubs now. You could say it's a brave move.

"The situation with Chelsea, I don't really see a pathway there for me now, and coming here is men's football at an amazing club playing football the way I want to play, so my development, it's going to be amazing. The ambition for where the club is going to be is where I want to be."

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to include a sell-on clause in Simons' contract once his permanent move to the MKM Stadium is agreed. Rosenior has already expressed his delight regarding the 20-year-old's decision to want to join Hull permanently.

"We worked so hard, myself Beri (Pardo), Tan (Kesler) and the coaching staff to try to convince him that this was the right club for Xavi, and I'm delighted that he's decided to be here long term," he told Hull Live. "It's difficult because I'm saying what a good player I think he is and how much better he can be, but he hasn't had the chance to show it, but he showed it (against Preston) - he played the game like I expected, like an experienced pro."
