Chelsea star treading suspension tightrope ahead of key Manchester United and Man City clashes

Yellow card risk: Chelsea - (Getty Images)

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo is on thin ice as he veers precariously towards a suspension.

The Ecuadorian is just one yellow card away from a two-match ban for accumulating 10 cautions for the campaign.

Players cannot accrue 10 yellow cards before gameweek 32, else they will be forced to sit out for two games.

Caicedo, the £115million signing from Brighton and Hove Albion, is sat on nine yellows in the Premier League this term.

Chelsea have some huge fixtures coming up in their quest to qualify for the Champions League, but their hopes took another hit on Saturday after they were beaten 1-0 at home by Newcastle United.

Anthony Gordon struck the winner on a poor afternoon at Stamford Bridge, where Liam Rosenior and his squad were questioned over their pre-match team huddle, which engulfed referee Paul Tierney.

The result leaves the Blues three points off the top four, although they were helped by other results over the weekend, with Tottenham rescuing a late draw at Liverpool, and Aston Villa, sat in fourth, were beaten 3-1 by Manchester United.

Rosenior’s men take on Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in their Champions League last 16 second leg - where they trail 5-2 on aggregate - before a trip to Everton this weekend.

Home fixtures against Manchester City and Manchester United follow, after their FA Cup quarter-final against League One side Port Vale.

Should Caicedo receive a yellow card against Everton on Saturday, then he would miss both games against City and United.
