Chelsea star accused of playing with 'no personality' amid Wesley Fofana opportunity

Kalidou Koulibaly has had a tough start to life at Chelsea. The defender was sent off on just his third Blues appearance and benched for the first two games of the Graham Potter era.

The 31-year-old returned to the side for the 3-0 win over AC Milan but still received criticism after the victory. Koulibaly has been open when talking about how he has adapted to the Premier League, saying: "I think my time will come. I am easy. I know that it's a normal process. So I have to keep on working, stay passionate, and my time will come."

Despite not hitting the ground running at Chelsea like he would have hoped, Koulibaly is likely to receive a run of starts in the side following the injury to Wesley Fofana, which the young Frenchman sustained in the win over Milan. He is expected to be out for between four and six weeks, meaning that Koulibaly is set to get his chance to impress new boss Potter, whether that's in a back four or a back three.

However, if he is handed a number of consecutive starts in the coming weeks, Koulibaly will have to prove a number of doubters wrong. One of those who hasn't been impressed by his performances since arriving at Stamford Bridge is former England boss Fabio Capello, who believes the former Napoli defender is lacking personality and confidence at Chelsea.

"At Chelsea, he has no personality," Capello told Sky Sports Italy. "When he has the ball at his feet, he hesitates. He is not playing quickly. He does not do what he did at Napoli.

"At Napoli, he commanded, he came forward, he made long passes, now he has the ball between his feet, he does not know who to pass it to, and he always plays passes to someone only a few metres away.

"I thought he had a great personality, and for Chelsea, he would be really important and explode straight away. And yet, at this moment, this is not him."
