Chelsea will be hoping they are still in control of the Mason Mount contract saga despite several twists and turns in the last few months. The Blues midfielder sees his current deal expire in 18 months and talks over an extension have rumbled on since before the World Cup.
Negotiations were initially set for November, but soon moved to January and now talks are set for the summer. With a clear gap between the two parties over an extension being agreed, Mount faces a crucial few months at Stamford Bridge to prove he is worthy of his wage demands.
Graham Potter was asked about the contract predicament involving Mount in his pre-Tottenham press conference where the Chelsea boss was reluctant to comment.

"It's always complicated, there is always negotiation," Potter explained on Friday. "It's best I leave it between Mason and the club, that is the best way for that to be dealt with as far as I'm concerned. He's been fantastic to work with, an important player for us, and of course, I hope it gets resolved quickly."
Understandably, given he is a full England international and Champions League winner, many clubs have expressed a genuine interest in taking advantage of the talks stalling. Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are all keeping tabs on the situation, although an update from Ben Jacobs hints at a stay in west London for the Cobham graduate.
"Mason Mount is another midfielder to watch, Liverpool’s interest is genuine,” Jacobs said on CaughtOffside. "Chelsea still feel they have the situation in their control as they look to extend Mount’s contract.
"Chelsea’s owners want Mount to commit to a long-term deal that’s quite incentive-driven and has a reduction in wage if the club don’t reach the Champions League in any given season. Mount loves Chelsea but with a massive squad, and his game time diminishing a little, he could be tempted away."
