Chelsea set to announce major new 'signing' next week as Todd Boehly's 2023 plan comes together

Chelsea are getting closer to announcing Christopher Vivell as their new technical director. The German has been expected to join the Blues for several months now but has been waiting for official confirmation after being let go by RB Leipzig.

The Bundesliga side announced his departure from the club in October, citing 'differences of opinion' as the reason behind him leaving, though it overlapped heavily with the understand of football.london that Vivell was increasingly close to agreeing to join Chelsea.

Todd Boehly and the new ownership group have been extremely active in clearing out and bringing in a new heirarchy behind the scenes. Key senior figures Bruce Buck, Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia were all allowed to leave over the summer with Paul Winstanley, Joe Shields and Laurence Stewart appointed already.

Vivell is likely to take the most senior role though in a technical director role, with Winstanley being Director of Global Talent and Transfers, Shields as Co-Director of Recruitment and Talent andStewart being technical director with a focus on football globally.

Contracts signed & visa done as reported. He should start as Chelseas new Technical Director in December. New leadership at #CFC in progress, new transfer strategy the next windows."

With the January window just around the corner Vivell's official appointment could be key for a busy 2023 ahead, though the benefits of the new model are unlikely to be seen immediatedly.
