Chelsea set for record breaking January as Pep Guardiola gives triple boost in transfer update

Your morning Chelsea digest on Friday, December 30.

Record breaking window

With a squad revamp comes the need for some big transfers and that's just what Graham Potter looks set to get. With Christopher Nkunku just an announcement away from being confirmed there are plenty of other deals to get done next month.

Andrey Santos is close to joining from Brazil for around £12million whilst Enzo Fernandez has a £106million release clause which football.london understands Chelsea are willing to pay for the 21-year-old.

David Datro Fofana has already been announced as joining in January meanwhile it is likely that a Reece James back-up will be looked at.

Pep Guardiola update

Chelsea may have a free run at some of their biggest transfer targets heading in 2023 as Pep Guardiola has ruled out his Manchester City side from making any additions.

The champions have been looking at a trio of Chelsea's own targets in Fernandez, Rafael Leao and Josko Gvardiol but the chances of them being picked up during the winter window now looks thin.

He said: "I think we're not going to sign any player in January, so we're going to finish this way." I don't know what's going to happen but since I arrived from Abu Dhabi, with Txiki Begiristain and everyone, there wasn't any name on the table."

Rui Costa ultimatum

Benfica president Rui Costa has told clubs to pay Enzo Fernandez's release clause or give up as speculation regarding his future continues.

The 21-year-old has become a main January target for Chelsea who are willing to pay the £105m for him but Costa still came out to clarify the situation.

The former Barcelona forward said: "We don’t want to give up Enzo Fernandez in January, but we are willing to please the boy in the event of a €120million (£106.2million) offer.”
