Chelsea fans have urged the club to sign Alex Scott after his midfield masterclass for England against Croatia, amid a new transfer boost.
Scott made his first start for the Three Lions in Saturday evening’s one-sided Nations League Group A3 fixture in Rijeka, lining up alongside Elliot Anderson in Thomas Tuchel’s engine room as he featured for 70 minutes in place of Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly.
It was a superb performance from the Bournemouth star, a regular and two-time European Championship winner for his country at youth level whose only previous senior England appearance came as a late replacement off the bench for Anderson during Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over 10-man Czech Republic in Prague.
Scott - along with most of his team-mates - was on top of his game as Tuchel’s dominant side demolished Croatia 7-0, achieving arguably their best performance to date under the German’s management and inflicting the hosts’ record defeat which an “ashamed” Luka Modric called “catastrophic” for Slaven Bilic’s men.
The match was played out in front of a crowd mostly made up of children and around 100 England fans after Croatia had been punished by UEFA for the previous behaviour of their supporters with a stadium ban.
Chelsea fans were hugely impressed by the performance of midfield transfer target Scott, whom their club tried to sign during the most recent summer window, only to see an offer worth £64million rejected by Bournemouth.
One Blues supporter wrote on X: “I’ll keep advocating for this signing. I genuinely don’t think there’s a better midfielder available on the market for Chelsea right now.
“Alex Scott is a proper baller. His quality, composure and energy in midfield are exactly what we need. Chelsea, please get this deal done.”
Another said: “The [Moises] Caicedo-Scott pivot would be unbeatable.”
“Alex Scott starts for England deep in midfield and they dominate the game start to finish,” another Chelsea fan wrote.
“He can run the show, Xabi Alonso had him as a key target at Chelsea to do this for us too. Top quality midfielder, 2027, he must be a Blue.”
Another message read: “Alex Scott has been outstanding for England against Croatia, looking composed, controlling the tempo, and carrying the ball with real purpose.
“Chelsea should not sleep on him. His technical security, athleticism, and reading of the game would fit naturally into the midfield at Stamford Bridge.”
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are also reported to have shown summer interest in Scott, with the competition for his signature only heating up further.
According to the latest reports from TEAMtalk, Real Madrid are now considering a move for the 23-year-old, having sent scouts to watch him in action on several occasions already this season - including in Croatia on Saturday.
However, The Telegraph say that Chelsea are currently leading the race for Scott and will push hard again to complete a move in 2027, having failed to secure a replacement for Enzo Fernandez before the summer deadline after a last-gasp swoop for Monaco’s Lamine Camara fell through.
It has been said that Bournemouth will refuse to sanction the sale of Scott in January, though, with the former Bristol City midfielder believed to have rejected two new contract offers on the south coast to date.
A departure from the Vitality Stadium looks most likely next summer, by which time he will have only one year left to run on his current deal.
