Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has made a heartbreaking admission over his future with Brazil after they were knocked out of the World Cup. Selecao manager Tite has resigned from his position following their shock defeat on penalties against Croatia in the quarter-finals.
Silva's form for the Blues resulted in him being called up to the Brazil squad for the tournament in Qatar despite turning 38 in September. The Brazilian has been a key figure in Chelsea's defence since completing a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, helping the club win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
After a frustrating 90 minutes, Neymar scored the opening goal of the game at the end of the first-half of extra-time before Bruno Petkovic equalised with just minutes left to play in the match. Dominik Livakovic proved to be the hero for his nation once again in a penalty shootout, saving Rodrygo's spot kick before Marquinhos missed to send Croatia through into the semi-finals.

Silva was unable to help Brazil win a record seventh World Cup in what looks to be his last appearance at a major international tournament. Speaking to beIN Sports after the match, the veteran defender said: "Sadly as a player I am not going to get to lift this trophy, who knows if in future I will get the chance in another role."
His comments suggest he could retire from international football following the World Cup, but with the next edition now three-and-a-half years away, it looks unlikely he will make it to another tournament. However, his hint at "another role" could potentially mean take up a coaching role with the Brazil national team in the future, or even becoming manager following Tite's resignation.
The 38-year-old's experiences in the game would be of use to any team looking to achieve success at club or international level, with Silva having won 30 major honours in his glittering career. The Brazilian defender's contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire at the end of the season but he could be offered a new deal if he looks to continue his career at club level.
