Chelsea defender Reece James has sent the Lionesses a heartwarming message after Sarina Wiegman's side made history and ended a 56-year wait for a trophy in the process.
On July, 31, 2022, the 11 heroes plus all the substitutes commemorated the 1966 FIFA World Cup win in the men's game which took place on the same day as the 2022 UEFA Women's Euro final but 56 years ago. This time around though, Chloe Kelly played the role of Geoff Hurst in becoming the hero of the match. Initially, it looked as though Man United star and super-sub in this tournament Ella Toone would take all the headlines with her exquisitely taken chipped effort which sent the 87,192 at Wembley into raptures.
However, this didn't turn out to be the case as Lina Magull found her inner Alexandre Popp to drag the contest into extra time. 30 minutes where both teams tired but another sub in the form of Kelly proved to be the match winner in the end. At the second time of asking, the former Everton footballer stabbed home her effort past the helpless Merle Frohms to make history for England and more importantly women's football.

The likes of Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Mason Mount and even the Queen herself came out in the post-match events to congratulate the team for what they had just done but James' heartwarming message will make everyone smile this week.
On his Instagram story @reecejames, he wrote: "Wow! Congratulations @lionesses! Today you've made history, the 1966 deadlock is broken!
"The Women's game has grown so much over the past 5 years... and it's only heading in one direction! You've all inspired the Nation and every young girl wanting to follow their dreams.
"This is just the start of a new ERA."
Of course, James' sister Lauren is a budding star for the future. She will of course get her time when she is given the trust of serial winner Wiegman to go out and win more for this country on the major stage.
