After beating Arsenal in an intense transfer battle to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhailo Mudryk, Chelsea took their January spending to £162.7million for five new arrivals. Despite also parting with £278.4million in the summer, Todd Boehly does not appear completely satisfied and with two weeks of the January transfer window remaining, more incomings to Stamford Bridge appears likely.
The Blues have been linked with numerous players in the January transfer window as Boehly attempts to complete a major squad overhaul that has already seen 13 players and a new manager in Graham Potter join the club since he became co-owner in May 2022. The big-money arrivals of Wesley Fofana (£75million), Marc Cucurella (£60million) and Raheem Sterling (£50million) have not quite worked out thus far, with injuries halting much of the trios' ability to have an impact.
The recent injury suffered by Sterling was a blow and with Christian Pulisic also subbed off with an issue in the same game, a rapid switch in where the Blues' transfer priority was occurred. The opening week of the window was focused on Benfica star Enzo Fernandez, but after the double injury blow in the frontline and lack of attacking vigour in the defeat to Fulham, Chelsea moved quickly to sign two forwards in less than seven days.
