Chelsea's next owners handed transfer headache as Real Madrid target Reece James

Chelsea star Reece James has caught the eye of Spanish giants Real Madrid and this leaves the new owners with a major to-do list upon their arrival at the club, as other players' contract situations will also need addressing.

James made his senior debut in September 2019 and has since gone on to become a key member of the squad for Thomas Tuchel. In his 33 appearances this season, the 22-year-old has contributed with six goals and seven assists.

His most recent outing after being sidelined was at Bernabeu in the dramatic 3-2 win in the Champions League quarter-final. As reported by Goal, Los Blancos were pleased with what they saw from the Englishman during the game, and have already approached his representatives ahead of a potential move in 2023.

Madrid's top priority this summer is to land Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe who has entered the final months of his current deal. And as things stand, Chelsea are unable to engage in any transfer activity or offer players new contracts until the club's takeover is completed.

Having said that, there's a few key matters that will need to be addressed once a takeover is finalised, with the likes of Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Marcos Alonso and Thiago Silva all out of contract next summer. They are just one of many whose futures remain uncertain.

James is contracted at the club until 2025 and is said to be valued at around £50million, after last committing to a contract extension in 2020. It is said he is earning around £60,000 per week, making him one of the lowest earners in the first-team squad, alongside Mason Mount, with the pair coming through the club's youth ranks.

James who took to Twitter after Chelsea's Champions League clash, wrote: "A game full of emotions. We gave everything yesterday. Sometimes in life everything just isn’t enough. Thank you for all the support."

Vinicius Jr then replied: "Great game bro. Good luck."
