Chelsea's next January transfer decision is already underway following Mykhailo Mudryk deal

It's already been a busy month for Chelsea but there is little sign of it slowing down and with two weeks of the January transfer window remaining, there is little time to waste. The Blues moved quickly over the weekend to land Mykhailo Mudryk from under the noses of Arsenal but business does not appear to be done yet.

On Monday it emerged that movement had already occurred, albeit in the loan department of Chelsea's squad. Lucas Bergstrom returned from his loan at Peterborough United. The 20-year-old, who made his debut for Finland earlier this month, has been first choice stopper for Posh over the course of this season but it appears since the League One side added Will Norris, the Blues became less sure.

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson said: "Chelsea wanted him back as they felt he wasn't going to get enough game time, which is fine. I explained my decision about bringing Will Norris in. You saw the composure he brought tonight. It's a big ask for young goalkeepers to play a full season. I think Chelsea were really surprised and pleased at how much Lucas played and it will do him the world of good."

The Blues have a number of options for what to do next with Bergstrom with an option of sending the youngster back out on loan, keeping him to rotate with Gabriel Slonina in the development squad after the loan departures of Eddie Beach and Teddy Sharman-Lowe. He further could help Chelsea's Champions League number as he would qualify to be on Chelsea's B list, if they wanted to remove Marcus Bettinelli from their squad to make room for an outfield signing.

There has yet to be an announcement of Harvey Vale's recall from Hull. football.london reported last week that Vale was making the return to west London and on Monday the young winger posted to his Instagram story seeming to confirm the move. He said: "Best of luck for the rest of the season Hull City. Thank you."

However, his Chelsea teammates at Hull, Xavier Simons and Nathan Baxter also await confirmation over their future. The latter has struggled with injury and could return to the Blues despite the option the Championship club have to make his deal permanent in the summer.

Liam Rosenoir's side are interested in attempting to sign Simons permanently but may have some difficulty in persuading their on-loan midfielder given the lack of minutes he has earned this season. Particularly with a number of other clubs interested in making a move.

Silko Thomas is seemingly on trial for Sheffield United, while the likes of Mason Burstow is drawing interest for a possible loan after an impressive return to Premier League 2 action.

The Blues, of course, have first-team considerations too, even with more than £400million spent there appears to be more room in their budget. A right back and centre midfielder remain prime considerations for Chelsea's next move.

Chelsea's recruitment team failed to land Enzo Fernandez at first attempt, while Brighton's Moises Caicedo could be on the agenda. However, as can be seen in the deal with Mudryk, priorities can change very quickly if an opportunity arises or is required.

football.london understands that Chelsea remain in negotiations for PSV's Noni Madueke with talks continuing over the weekend, despite the deal for Mudryk being completed. PSV do not want to sell after already parting ways with Cody Gakpo but a fee in the region of £40million could be enough to land the winger with technical director Christopher Vivell pushing for the move.

Graham Potter already appears to have ended the possibility of Conor Gallagher departing the club this month. Newcastle United and Crystal Palace were interested in a loan deal but the Chelsea boss wants to retain the services of Gallagher whose ambition is to simply earn minutes.
