Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly set to go head-to-head to sign FC Porto's highly-rated winger Pepe. The 25-year-old has also attracted interest from Italian giants Juventus ahead of the January transfer window.
The Gunners dipped into the Portuguese market in the summer to lure Fabio Vieira from Porto for £34million after the 22-year-old was linked with a move to one of Europe's biggest clubs. The Portugal Under-21 international has shown glimpses of his ability in north London but has initially struggled to make the adaptation to English football.
Mikel Arteta's side could now revisit Porto's quality crop of players in January, but face competition. Chelsea are preparing for a busy winter transfer window themselves after spending over £270million in Todd Boehly's first window at the club.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola (via The Sun), both London sides are set to battle it out for the winger's signature this winter. The report claims Arsenal were keen on Pepe in the summer but were reluctant to meet Porto's price tag and opted for Vieira instead.
The story states that the Premier League pair have been blown away by his performances this season, leaving their scouts with "their mouths open". Should the reports be accurate, the clubs wouldn't have been attracted by his numbers with Pepe contributing to only seven goals in 22 appearances this season.
However, with reports linking Mykhaylo Mudryk and Cody Gakpo to the Premier League for £40million and £50million respectively, it's understood that Pepe would cost at least £65million - triggering his release clause. It's unclear whether either side will take a chance with the winger in January with Juventus also said to be keen.
