Chelsea player ratings vs Norwich: Havertz the tormentor, Mount bright, Silva calming presence

Chelsea put a turbulent day behind them with a 2-1 win at Norwich to strengthen their hold on third-place in the Premier League.

James Robson was at Carrow Road to rate Thomas Tuchel’s side...

Edouard Mendy 6

Held onto a Zimmermann effort well in the first and denied Pukki after the break – only to then be beaten from the spot.

Trevoh Chalobah 7

Settled the nerves immediately with his early goal. Generally composed at the back and got forward impressively – but a momentary lapse saw him handle in the box to give Norwich a route back.

Thiago Silva 7

In the right place at the right time on some many occasions to calm those around him in an altered back three.

Andreas Christensen 7

A couple of timely interceptions broke down promising Norwich moves. Solid in the air and comfortable on the left of a three.

Cesar Azpilicueta 6

Got up well in the first half to force Norwich to retreat. Worked well in combination with Mount and Havertz.

Jorginho 6

Some really intelligent use of the ball – particularly when Chelsea were on top in the first half. Needed to do more of a shift picking up pieces around his box after the break.

Mateo Kovacic 6

Consistently forced Norwich midfielders to chase the wrong way with his runs through the middle and incisive passing.

Saul Niguez 6

Operating in a wingback role, he was forced to defend more than he would like in the second half as Norwich targeted that side.

Mason Mount 7

So bright in the first half. Set up Chalobah’s goal with his corner and then found the net himself. Still buzzed after the break, but less effective.

Kai Havertz 8

A real torment to Norwich, who could not pick up his runs in the first 45 minutes as he switched from central to wide areas, combining with Mount. Added late clincher.

Timo Werner 6

Constantly chased down loose balls to keep Norwich on their toes. Not enough of a threat in the box though.

Substitutes

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Azpilicueta, 46) 6

Brought on in a wingback role and performed creditably. Beaten by Rashica at one point, but otherwise held his own.

N’Golo Kante (Kovacic, 85)

Romelu Lukaku (Werner, 86)
