Chelsea player ratings vs Man United: Kepa exceptional but embarrassing evening for Marc Cucurella

Casemiro’s last-minute header broke Chelsea’s hearts when they thought they won it minutes earlier through a Jorginho penalty.

The two English giants shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Jorginho coolly sent David De Gea the wrong way from the spot after Armando Broja won the penalty during a corner routine in the 87th minute.

Casemiro’s towering header in the 94th minute clawed back a point for Erik Ten Hag’s side.

Nizaar Kinsella was at Stamford Bridge to witness the action.

Kepa Arrizabalaga - 8

After a run of over seven hours without conceding a goal, Kepa made a good early save from Antony in the 13th minute.

Kepa made a good save on Rashford in the 27th minute with his feet, then had to save again from the striker late in the first half.

His exceptional playing out from the back stopped Antony’s press early in the second half, proving another complete performance for the Spanish goalkeeper.

He passed 10 hours without conceding a goal and did all he could to stop Casemiro’s towering header in the last minute, only for it to cross the line by only a centimetre.

Trevoh Chalobah - 7

Showed that he could play in a back four in one of the biggest games in English football. He came closest to scoring, heading against the bar in the 74th minute after dominating Fred who marked him.

Thiago Silva - 6

After being rested in midweek, the 38-year-old returned to the heart of Chelsea’s defence.

Marc Cucurella - 4

Cucurella was drafted in after a minor Kalidou Koulibaly knee injury in against Brentford on Wednesday.

Rashford stole in behind him to get a shot on goal in the 27th minute.

He was hauled off in the 36th minute for Mateo Kovacic in embarrassing circumstances.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 6

Azpilicueta went up to joint third in the all-time Premier League appearance charts for Chelsea with his 333rd appearance in the competition.

He was solid enough without offering much in attack.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - 6

Loftus-Cheek’s powerful pressing in midfield led to an Aubameyang breakaway in the seventh minute.

However, gave away possession to allow Rashford in one-on-one in the 27th minute.

He was substituted late as Chelsea chased the win.

Jorginho - 8

The Chelsea midfielder produced his usual controlling midfield display, suffering at times for his lack of pace against Man United’s forwards.

From the spot, there are few better and he scored his 87th-minute penalty to win the game, or so he thought.

Ben Chilwell - 6

Also one of those rested in the west London derby, he made a great pass for Aubameyang in the 41st minute but he miss-controlled it inside the box.

However, he struggled again to play with Cucurella, starting at wing back and then moving to left back after the early substitution.

Mason Mount - 6

Having got two goals and four assists already this season, the Blues midfielder almost set up Aubameyang in the 14th minute with a good cross.

Ultimately, he faded as the game wore on.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang - 7

Looked dangerous with his movement, almost getting on the end of a Mount cross early on and then shooting just wide of David De Gea’s goal in the 39th minute.

He was a danger running in behind, but couldn’t get many chances despite his diligent running.

Raheem Sterling - 5

Sterling faced Manchester United more than any opponent in his senior career in all competitions –but has done so without scoring in 23 appearances.

His terrible touch in the 56th minute wasted a chance with Raphael Varane down injured on a counter attack.

He was substituted shortly after.

Substitutes

Mateo Kovacic - 7

Came on to fix Chelsea’s tactical problems midway through the first half.

He looked assured and Chelsea improved as the match went on, producing a similar impact to the one in midweek for Brentford.

Christian Pulisic - 6

The winger didn’t really impact the game after coming on.

Carney Chukwuemeka - 6

The 18-year-old got a big vote of confidence to come on in the second half and push for a goal. He produced a good dribble through midfield which is one of his great attributes.

Armando Broja - 7

The young striker won the penalty at a set piece after a foul by Scott McTominay.

Unused substitutes

Edouard Mendy; Denis Zakaria, Conor Gallagher; Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech
