Kepa Arrizabalaga
Handed the chance to put his Carabao Cup final disappointment behind him, Kepa conceded inside the opening two minutes as Reece Burke glanced home a header from a corner. The Spaniard could do little about the goal, nor Harry Cornick's that followed later in the first half.
He did make an important stop from Dan Potts and was one of the few players not to look mentally overawed by the occasion. But he wasn't overly busy at Kenilworth Road. 6
Antonio Rudiger
Chelsea's aggressive leader was one of just two players to keep their place after the Carabao Cup final, although he was drafted over to the right of the back three with Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah ruled out.
Rudiger wasn't at fault for either of Luton's goals but was slightly more wasteful in possession, though that can be put down to those ahead of him failing to perform. 7
Ruben Loftus-Cheek
The academy graduate started in the middle of the back three, a position he has not played at any point in his senior career, and unsurprisingly didn't look comfortable when Chelsea were out of possession, evidenced by his dart forward which vacated space for Cornick.
With the ball, Loftus-Cheek was reliable with his passing and there was one eye-catching drive forward with the ball and he claimed the assist for Timo Werner's goal with a lovely weighted pass forward.
He was moved into midfield for the final 15 minutes and played an incisive pass that enabled Christian Pulisic to cross for Romelu Lukaku's goal. 7
Malang Sarr
Back in on the left of the central defensive trio, Sarr was beaten by Burke for the Luton opener and played Cornick onside for the Hatters' second.
The Frenchman, who has impressed at points since the turn of the year, also looked uncomfortable and sluggish in possession and nearly gifted Danny Hylton a clear chance with a poor pass.
It was a poor display. 4
Callum Hudson-Odoi
Starting at right wing-back once more, Hudson-Odoi didn't have the confidence to take on his man and far too often played the safe pass. Chelsea need more from the 21-year-old even when he is being used out of position. 4
Jorginho
After a February in which he played very little football due to Tuchel trying to let him recover after an intensive December and January, Jorginho was back in the Chelsea side.
However, the midfielder still looked fatigued and had very little influence on the Blues' possession game and didn't cover his back three well. It was telling he was replaced by Reece James for the last 15 minutes. 4
Saul Niguez
It will require something rather dramatic for Chelsea to even consider keeping Saul at Stamford Bridge after his season-long loan from Atletico Madrid, but he was one of the Blues' better players this evening.
He took his first-half goal very well and brought an energy to the side that was generally lacking across the rest of the pitch. Filled in at left wing-back for the final 30 minutes and did a job. 7
Kenedy
This was the Brazilian's first appearance for Chelsea since 2018 and he was used at left wing-back. It wasn't an overly successful outing for Kenedy who lasted an hour before being brought off. Don't expect to see Kenedy again any time soon. 4
Mason Mount
There were flashes of Mount's true self in the opening 45 minutes as he attempted to quicken the tempo of Chelsea's performance, but they were fleeting and in the second period, he drifted out of the game – one cross that ended up on the roof of the away end summed up his form.
The academy graduate brought his usual energy and effort without the ball and did begin to have more influence once moved back into the midfield. 6
Romelu Lukaku
It appeared as though this would be another frustrating night for Lukaku, who had very few sights of goal and toiled away with much success against the Luton centre-backs.
Yet when the opportunity presented itself, he was there and finished off well from a Werner cross to finally put Chelsea ahead in the contest. It proved to be the winner. 7
Timo Werner
Deployed off the left of the Chelsea attack, Werner had little impact on the game in the first half. His touch was poor and the German looked utterly devoid of confidence.
Yet rather unexpectedly, Werner levelled the game for Chelsea for the second time as he took down Loftus-Cheek's pass and finished well. He then added to that with the cross for Lukaku's goal.
There are still big questions over the German but his display in the final 30 minutes at least gave some hope that he could still have a role to play during the remainder of the season. 7
Substitutes
Christian Pulisic (for Kenedy, 61)
Wasn't hugely involved but did show good awareness to leave Loftus-Cheek's pass for Werner in the build-up to Lukaku's winner. 6
Harvey Vale (for Callum Hudson-Odoi, 61)
Another senior outing for the 18-year-old and he didn't look out of place, although his influence was limited. 6
Reece James (for Jorginho, 76)
Slotted in on the right of the back three and Chelsea instantly looked more comfortable as a result. Will only get better as he gets fitter. 6
