Chelsea player ratings vs AC Milan: Jorginho in control as Trevoh Chalobah takes chance again

Chelsea have put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League after a 2-0 away win at AC Milan.

Jorginho dispatched a penalty after Fikayo Tomori was controversially sent off for pulling Mason Mount back in the 18th minute.

Mount then supplied the pass for a simple Pierre Emerick Aubameyang finish to further extend the lead.

The Blues went on to dominate the rest of the match with a man extra and are now top after Dinamo Zagreb drew with RB Salzburg in the other Group E game.

Nizaar Kinsella was at the San Siro to rate the Chelsea players...

Kepa Arrizabalaga - 6

The Spain international didn’t make a save in the entire match on a quiet night.

Trevoh Chalobah - 7

Handled Rafael Leao well over 90 minutes inside San Siro, he has fully taken his chance after Wesley Fofana’s injury.

Thiago Silva - 6

The 38-year-old got a wonderful reception on his first return to San Siro but it was a quiet night marking an isolated Olivier Giroud. He made a clearance after Kepa pushed out a cross into a dangerous area early in the first half.

Kalidou Koulibaly - 6

Koulibaly gave away a free-kick in a dangerous area in the third minute. Yet, he was overall a solid performer and is beginning to show signs he is adapting to Chelsea.

Reece James - 7

James began the first 15 minutes of the match with three wonderful cross-field balls. Ultimately, his moment of quality broke the deadlock as his through ball wreaked havoc.

However, he had a bit of a harder time against Rafael Leao, who is Milan’s star player, before being forced off with a knee injury.

Jorginho - 8

As usual, Jorginho perfectly dispatched his penalty and it was all the more impressive after such a long delay.

It was his 200th appearance for the club on Tuesday night in all competitions. He barely misplaced a pass, boasting 98% passing accuracy after completing more passes than any other player.

Mateo Kovacic - 7

A dynamic display running Chelsea’s midfield, finding gaps between the lines as Chelsea hoarded possession with a man extra.

Ben Chilwell - 5

Allowed the cross that led to a free Olivier Giroud header in the six-yard box. The England international blazed a shot high and wide in the 68th minute and continues to battle back to his level of last season after a knee injury.

Mason Mount - 8

Mount’s run in behind won the penalty as he exploited the space between Theo Hernandez and Fikayo Tomori.

His running ability helped Chelsea win several free-kicks. Mount went on to slot Aubameyang in with a cushioned pass. He was substituted at half-time having started every game since the international break when others have been rested.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 7

Aubameyang’s composed finish at Ciprian Tatarusanu’s near post made it three goals in three games for the £14million signing from Barcelona.

Almost tapped home a ricochet in the 55th minute, before coming off late on.

Raheem Sterling - 6

Sterling went in over the top in a challenge in the 30th minute but escaped with only a yellow card. He was substituted for Loftus-Cheek in the second half.

Substitutes

Cesar Azpilicueta - 6

The Chelsea captain came on for an injured Reece James in the 62nd minute and slotted in nicely. He set up a big chance for Gallagher late on but the Cobham graduate took too many touches.

Conor Gallagher - 5

Came on for Mount for the second half and missed a big chance after being played through by James in the 49th minute. He was beaten by Rafael Leao too easily as he created Sergino Dest’s big chance midway through the second half.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - 6

The midfielder came on for Sterling in a move to close out the game in the 62nd minute. He set up a good chance for Aubameyang who was sloppy with his first touch.

Marc Cucurella - N/A

Kai Havertz - N/A

Unused subs:Marcus Bettinelli, Edouard Mendy; Denis Zakaria, Carney Chukwuemeka; Christian Pulisic, Armando Broja.
