Chelsea player ratings as Conor Gallager earns win and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shows promise

Kepa Arrizabalaga - The Spanish stopper produced a good save from Eberechi Eze's shot from distance before ensuring Wilfried Zaha cannot tap home the rebound. Showed good awareness and saves throughout the afternoon. 7.

Reece James - Perhaps would have liked to put in a stronger challenge in the build-up to Palace's opening goal but generally brought his impressive level of consistency. His deep ball to Thiago Silva opened up play for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first Chelsea goal. Crucial late clearance and did well in his battle with Wilfried Zaha. 7.

Wesley Fofana - Gave away possession before losing track of the run of Odsonne Edouard, as the Eagles forward put the ball past Kepa. The Frenchman will be very disappointed with his lapse in concentration. Did not leave himself as exposed as the game went on and looked good carrying the ball out of defence. 5.

Thiago Silva - Was caught in possession by Ayew just after the half-hour mark before scooping the ball out of the way of the Palace striker to earn a yellow card. Quickly redeemed himself in Chelsea eyes by knocking down the ball to assist Aubameyang's opening goal. 6.

Ben Chilwell - Caught by Ayew when he lingered in possession before being bailed out by Silva. Not at his fluent best. 6.

Mateo Kovacic - Productive on the ball but never too far away from fouling Michael Olise when he was off it. Picked up a late yellow card. 6.

Jorginho - Generally good at orchestrating and in control of possession but exposed any time he needs to recover. Left grimacing on his way off the pitch when he was substituted after 55 minutes. 6.

Mason Mount - The England international was much more aggressive in his attacking play than his first outing under Potter and ensured there were always bodies in the Palace box when Chelsea attacked. Would have liked to do better with his effort from Chelsea's indirect near halftime. Found himself earning opportunities throughout the game but perhaps a little wasteful in the end. 6.

Raheem Sterling - The 27-year-old lined up predominantly on the right wing against the Eagles and continued to show his ability to find space in the opposition box. One of his quieter Chelsea outings. 6.

Kai Havertz - A more promising afternoon from the German international. Showed some nice interplay behind Aubameyang and looked to carry the ball well before shooting wide on the brink of halftime. 6.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Unmasked and unleashed, Aubameyang showed elements of a striker that Chelsea have desperately missed. The 33-year-old was unafraid to drop deep to keep play moving and showed patience to take his strike and put it past Vicente Guaita. Showed some signs as the game went on that he was still not entirely up to speed but had the clinical edge Chelsea required. 7.

Substitutes

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - Set up at the base of midfield and given some licence to go forward. Steady outing. 6.

Armando Broja - The young striker replaced Aubameyang with 15 minutes left on the clock and did a solid job of holding the ball when required. 6.

Conor Gallagher - The Blues midfielder returned to his loan destination, still looking to make his mark for Chelsea. He did that at Selhurst Park when he allowed the ball to roll across his body before unleashing a fierce strike to earn Graham Potter his first win. 8.

Christian Pulisic - Had less than 10 minutes to make an impression against a team he's found success against in the past. His close control into the Palace box allowed him to find Gallagher on the edge for the Blues' winner. 7.
