Chelsea: Petr Cech hails Didier Drogba’s induction into the Premier League Hall of Fame

Petr Cech has hailed former Chelsea teammate Didier Drogba’s induction into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

The striker, who won four League titles across two spells at Stamford Bridge, was among six new inductees named on Thursday.

Ian Wright, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany were named alongside the great Ivorian marksman.

They join Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, David Beckham, Dennis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona, Steven Gerrard, Roy Keane, Frank Lampard, Patrick Vieira and Wayne Rooney in the Hall of Fame.

A Chelsea legend for his exploits across a number of competitions, Drogba scored the winning penalty in the 2012 Champions League final to capture the previously elusive crown and was renowned for his ability to impact huge games.

Cech arrived in the same summer as Jose Mourinho splashed the cash in 2004 and hailed his former teammate.

Now Chelsea’s technical advisor, Cech was speaking to the club’s official website.

“I’m happy he got this recognition,” he said.

“He is one of those players who will always be remembered in the Premier League for his commitment and for his passion for the game, for his goals, for his personality. It’s a great achievement and it’s really deserved.”
