Chelsea news: Rival bidders turn against each other as Three make shirt demand

Property tycoon Nick Candy has aimed a dig at one of his rival bidders as he hopes to purchase Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea owner Abramovich put the club up for sale following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He has now been sanctioned by the UK government, plunging the club into a state of crisis.

The sanctions mean the Blues must operate on a reduced budget and are unable to buy or sell players, negotiate new contracts or sell any merchandise. And Candy has now explained why he will not be teaming up to form a super consortium with one of his rival bidders for the club.

It comes as Three have put Chelsea under more pressure to remove their logo from the Blues' shirt. And Chelsea are into the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Lille over two legs.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Chelsea headlines.

Three make shirt demand

Chelsea sponsor Three has made fresh calls to have their logo removed from the club's shirts.

Three suspended their deal with the Blues in the wake of Roman Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK government. But the sanctions mean the Stamford Bridge outfit must operate under a very strict budget and so the sponsorship removal is yet to have taken place.

And the telecommunications company has now released a statement calling for the situation to be resolved "as soon as possible".

Bidders turn on each other

Nick Candy insists he will not be teaming up with Jonathan Goldstein to form a super consortium to buy Chelsea for one simple reason.

The British property tycoon is one of the parties interested in purchasing the club from Roman Abramovich but will face strong competition to become the club's next owner. Another party in the frame is a consortium made up of London-based property investor Jonathan Goldstein, US tycoon Todd Boehly and Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss.

But Candy will not be joining the group – and it's all because of Goldstein.

Lille talking points

Chelsea are into the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Lille 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The Blues overcame stubborn opponents to seal a 4-1 aggregate win after falling behind to Burak Yilmaz’s first-half penalty. But goals from Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta helped Chelsea overturn the deficit to book their place in the next round.

It was a game full of talking points, and Mirror Football has all of the big moments covered.
