Chelsea News: Rafael Leao's contract demands revealed amid Arsen Zakharyan transfer update

Here are your football.london headlines on Monday, September 12.

Rafael Leão's contract demands revealed ahead of January

The Portuguese could have moved late on in the summer transfer window due to Chelsea's unwillingness to meet his steep £120million release clause. It is expected that Todd Boehly will return in the January transfer window for more negotiations.

In the meantime, the 23-year-old has started the new Serie A season on red-hot form, attaining six goal involvements in six top-flight games in 2022/23. He did, however, receive a red card in the latest AC Milan win over Sampdoria over the weekend.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport has reaffirmed that the Blues are monitoring Rafael Leao's new contract talks with AC Milan. The Portuguese winger wants around £118,000 per week and wants Milan to contribute towards the £14m he was ordered to pay former club Sporting Lisbon.

Arsen Zakharyan transfer update

Chelsea remain in the hunt for the young sensation with the January transfer window already on the agenda.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted: 'Chelsea remain interested in Arsen Zakharyan as a potential target for present and future. There's a plan to follow the Russian talent in the next months. 'There was no full agreement on fee with Dinamo Moscow in August, but personal terms were 100% agreed.'

Former Blues full-back/winger Yuri Zhirkov has approved Chelsea's approach for the young Dinamo Moscow winger. He told Russian media: "Zakharyan at Chelsea? Why not? Arsen is a great player and one of the leaders of Dinamo. Look at Kvaratskhelia [Napoli]. He left [RPL], and look how he plays now."

John Terry shuts down Tuchel Chelsea praise and chooses best manager

John Terry's view on the new Chelsea ownership, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter were always going to be important, considering just how much his opinion is respected among the Blues fanbase.

Tuchel, who is now looking to get straight back into management, is regarded by some Chelsea fans as one of the tactically most astute managers in the club's recent history when compared to trophy-winning managers like José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte and many others.

This is the view of well-known Chelsea supporter and Premier League presenter Olivia Buzaglo who tweeted in relation to the Champions League final masterclass in Porto: 'This performance will never get old. How every single Chelsea player on that pitch pulled a 10/10 in the biggest game of their lives, I'll never know. A game plan that worked to absolute perfection, masterminded by the absolute genius that is Thomas Tuchel. Unbelievable.

'For a one-off, knockout game, there is genuinely no manager in world football. I'm taking over Thomas Tuchel.'

To which Terry disagreed and tweeted his own managerial choice who he believes would be the best at managing one-off games and the reasoning: "Jose 100%."

Billy Gilmour annoyed truth

The young Scotsman moved to Brighton due to Graham Potter's influence, so he was understandably annoyed when Potter jumped ship for Chelsea, according to The Mirror.

However, according to the Athletic's Brighton writer Andy Naylor, there was another big figure that helped make Gilmour's Chelsea exit possible. 'Suggestions that Billy Gilmour only agreed to join Brighton from Chelsea due to the playing style of Graham Potter don't take account of the influence of David Weir. The technical director was assistant manager when Gilmour made his debut at Glasgow Rangers.'
